Setting off a little earlier than the men we meet just after 9am on a
Saturday morning at the junction of Bents Road
and Ecclesall Road South on the outskirts of Sheffield (South West). Our usual route takes us into the peaks of Derbyshire
where we do a loop of around 40 miles incorporating
an obligatory stop at the Pool café in Hathersage.
At the café we have a good chat over sticky buns and pots of tea, discussing our next adventures.
This has now led to a regular midweek evening training rides around Dam Flask
and occasionally weekly mountain bike rides often in the dark and with lots of lovely mud,
but always ending with a deserving pint or two in the Norfolk Arms pub at Ringinglow.
The group also has a very successful Facebook page established.
It was originally created for women cyclists to connect with like-minded others, make friends,
post details of social rides/training rides/meeting times etc, and to share information
and news about cycling in the area. It took off incredibly well and we now find ourselves
with over 245 enthusiastic members – and counting!
Our next step is to encourage more women to join us in our sport and to move
women’s cycling in the area onwards and upwards. The development of this website is part of that
together with the anticipated creation of some unique cycling kit that will give us
a real identity out on the roads and trails.
We hope that you will be excited by what is happening and want to –
quite literally – come along for the ride too!
